What to Expect at Your First Visit (The Evaluation)

We know the first appointment can feel like a big step, so we want to make it as easy as possible. Our goal is for your child to have fun!

What will my child be doing?

To your child, it will just feel like playing. Our therapists are experts at engaging children with fun, purposeful activities. While they play, the therapist will be using standardized assessments and professional observation to evaluate skills like:

  • Speech: Articulation, language, and social communication.
  • Occupational: Fine motor skills (like holding a crayon), sensory processing, and self-care tasks.
  • Physical: Gross motor skills (like jumping and balance), strength, and coordination.

What is my role as a parent?

You are the most important part of the process! You'll be right there with your child and the therapist. Be prepared to:

  • Answer questions about your child's developmental history.
  • Share your concerns and what you're noticing at home.
  • Talk about your goals and what you hope to achieve.

Where will the session be held?

You can choose to have the session either in the comfort of your home or at a therapy center. We understand that selecting the right environment is important for your comfort. We suggest that holding the session in a place where your child feels at ease can be beneficial.

What should I bring?

Please bring the following to your first appointment:

  • Your insurance card and a photo ID.
  • Your completed New Client Forms (if you didn't email them).
  • Any previous reports from other therapists, doctors, or your child's school.
